Local 60 member camp preserving Southern history, by Leslie McGuinness, Staff Writer

"Georgians as  well as residents of surrounding Southern states will now have a research center in Cumming where they may find information about the Civil War.
From the names of enlisted servicemen to battlefield stories, the new Hiram Parks Bell Southern History and Genealogical Research Center offers a true taste of the Civil War days.
[The library is] sponsored by Forsyth's Sons of Confederate Veterans, Hiram Parks Bell Camp 1642 and the City of Cumming, which is providing space for its home in the Historic Cumming Schoolhouse.
Along with the collection of weaponry and Indian art on permanent display, there will always be revolving exhibits that reflect Southern heritage.
The first exhibit will showcase Southern Appalachian pottery."

"     Bell Research Center director Ted Brooke said, 'We're here to serve the region.  About two-thirds of Georgia counties are represented in the books.'
The center will eventually have 'everything necessary to conduct research,' including Internet access and copying capabilities.
'Whatever the room will hold, we'll fill,' said curator Frank Clark.  'We'd really like to have the best research [facility] in the state and we think that's possible.' "
